We currently have opportunities to add to our live-in Residence Life Supervisor team. Successful applicants will be assigned to our BU London: Kensington residences. The RLS helps to support our undergraduate students in university housing for the academic semester. We usually have over 300 students each semester, and the RLS team support students at nights and weekends to help staff ensure the safe and professional running of the programme.
The Residence Life Supervisor is usually part of a small team of 9-11 RLSs and it is essential that this team works together as a close-knit unit, both for backup and support to students. The RLS team are the first point of contact for students and act as the backbone of the on-call emergency team. They work closely with: students, the maintenance and housekeeping teams, security and the Student Affairs staff. As the first point of contact every RLS should be able to respond well in difficult and emergency situations and have the patience to deal with more minor, but sometimes challenging, demands.
The RLS will be part of the on-call team which provides out of hours support on a 7-day basis when students are in residence and will be expected to be available during evenings and weekends on a pre agreed rota basis. The RLS role is part time, so allows flexible working where you may have additional employment or are studying elsewhere on weekdays during the daytime.
You will need recent experience of a similar role, and to be good at communicating with students and creating a welcoming atmosphere whilst being able to maintain discipline. You should demonstrate a mature approach and the ability to make sound judgements, and you will be required to understand and abide by our current rules and codes of conduct.
The BU London: South Kensington RLS team live in single occupancy en-suite rooms with access to shared student kitchens, and all associated bills are covered by the university. You will receive a competitive salary for your variable hours, and full training will be provided. You must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK, without a limitation on working hours.
To apply, please send your 2-page CV with a covering letter of your suitability for the role to Meg Cullen - macullen@bu.edu. Initial application deadline will be 24th March with an extended final application deadline of Friday 14th April. We initially will be holding interviews on Wednesday 29th March and will be looking to make appointments prior to the April deadline, you are therefore encouraged to apply early and prior to the end of March. Should all roles not be appointed in March, the April interviews will be held on 18th April.
Please let us know within your application if you are unable to attend in person, or on the scheduled interview dates for us to try to accommodate alternative arrangements.
Successful candidates will be able to move in from early May 2023, however must be available to start on or before 17th May.
You are encouraged to apply early as assessment and interviews will be conducted throughout the recruitment process.
