Since 1845, Queen’s University staff, students and alumni have made a difference to societies locally, nationally, and internationally. Today, we are one of the UK and Ireland’s leading universities and continue to shape and serve the world around us through our research and teaching. Over 99% of Queen’s research environment was assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent, with Queen’s ranked 198 in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
Queen’s has always been a generator of knowledge. We tackle the issues faced by individuals and societies at a local, regional, and global level and we are an engine of progress that is central to the socio-economic success of Northern Ireland. When it comes to future graduate employment, Queen’s ranks 12th in the UK, and our contribution to the local and regional economy of Northern Ireland is currently estimated at over three billion pounds annually.
This is a significant moment in the history of our university, and an exciting time to join the Queen’s community. We have recently designed a new Executive Leadership team structure, to optimally align strategy vision with operational delivery - making us more agile and better equipped to achieve our goals as we move forward. We are seeking to appoint several leadership roles to ensure that Queen’s is ideally positioned to deliver on the aims and ambitions of Strategy 2030.
As part of this new structure Queen’s University is seeking to appoint a Pro Vice-Chancellor Education and Students. This individual will be a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s University Management Board and reports directly to the Provost & Deputy Vice-Chancellor working along with the Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellors and fellow portfolio PVCs for Global Engagement and Research and Enterprise to deliver Queen’s Strategy 2030.. The individual will be responsible for strategy and governance of educational performance and a student learning experience of the highest standard across Queen’s three Faculties as well as leading knowledge and skills initiatives across the Schools and Policy areas. They will create an environment and culture of innovation in pedagogy and educational enhancement. The PVC Education and Students will demonstrate credible leadership for academics, professional services colleagues and students and will be committed to developing Queen’s educational excellence in a dynamic Higher Education landscape.
This role offers a major opportunity for an outstanding individual to shape and advance education at Queen’s. The successful candidate will be a highly able and visionary individual who will bring a record of senior leadership in a higher education context, a proven commitment to teaching and learning improvement and an ability to collaborate within and outside of the University to develop innovative approaches, with an emphasis on technology-enhanced learning and flexible educational contexts. They will be deeply informed by inclusive educational principles, and have a demonstrable commitment to working in partnership with students to tackle inequality and create the very best possible outcomes by providing a highly positive, engaged and rounded experience to each individual student.
