Job Summary:
The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to carry out research in the area of process systems engineering. The position is part of the wider PharmaSEL-Prosperity Partnership on Transforming synthetic drug manufacturing: novel processes, methods and tools in collaboration with the global pharmaceuticals company Eli Lilly & Company.
The post holder will work under the supervision of Profs. Benoit Chachuat, Cleo Kontoravdi and Nilay Shah at the Sargent Centre for Process Systems Engineering.
You will develop advanced model-based methods and tools to enable optimal workflows in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. Of particular interest are model-based approaches to design space characterization and optimization, with a view to linking the design spaces of different unit operations and accounting for uncertainty. Surrogate modeling approaches driven by first-principles and mechanistic elements will be investigated to improve computational tractability. You will implement and fully document software tools for the above tasks and conduct case studies in collaboration with the industrial partner.
Candidates should have a PhD* (or equivalent) in chemical engineering or another relevant topic.
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £38,194 – £41,388 per annum.
