Following a multimillion-pound investment programme, Wimbledon College of Arts is progressing with its ambition to become a world leading centre for performance. To fully activate our new performance spaces, we are expanding our staff team. We are investing in a department of specialist technicians, capable of growing our performance portfolio and contributing towards raising our global profile as a ‘centre for performance’.
The role of Specialist Technician (L&T) - Live Performance – Lighting is an exciting opportunity for a multi-skilled theatre technician with a specialism in lighting design and engineering for live performance. In this key role you will provide technical expertise in sound, lighting, AV, show control interfacing, and multimedia performance workflows. You will also contribute to technical delivery within the wider technical team and support teaching, performance, research, and commercial activities throughout the programme spaces.
The technical team within the school of performance support the theatre alongside several technically enhanced spaces, hosting numerous live performance productions throughout the year. Working through developmental stages and rehearsals through to the final output, live performance technicians are an integral part of the student journey.
With an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject or considerable experience in a similar technical role, you will have working knowledge of technical theatre processes, including sound, AV, lighting design and engineering, and proven technical skills with QLab and standard models of lighting desks like ETC. You will have experience in rigging, projection mapping, show control interfacing using MIDI, OSC, and other protocols to integrate performance technology, as well as experience in teaching and/or demonstrating techniques related to sound, lighting, and theatre stage craft.
