Bournemouth University’s vision is worldwide recognition as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society through the fusion of education, research and practice. Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives and experiences that help to build our global learning community.
The University is seeking to appoint a talented, enthusiastic and motivated Post-Doctoral Research Assistant/Research Fellow in HCI/UX and Mixed Reality to work in the Hybrid Space Research Cluster, a new research initiative funded by the University’s Research Capacity Transformation Scheme.
Successful candidates will have opportunities working in a large interdisciplinary research team, gaining experience in PhD supervision and research project management, and developing international recognized research careers. This post-doctoral position aims at developing deep understandings in human interactions and behaviors in Mixed Reality Hybrid Spaces, including how users articulate, create and co-create artifacts and content in different physical and digital environments. This will include working on a variety of research projects in mixed reality, particularly in the digital cultural heritage domain, and developing new proposals for research. Building on Bournemouth University’s research expertise in digital games, computer animation and VR, the goal of this area of research activities is also to explore design and control methodologies for the safety and ethically grounded user interactions in mixed reality and their impact on digital culture and social connections. This work contributes to interdisciplinary academic outputs, including digital culture heritage, digital storytelling, human behavior analysis, and HCI and evaluating the User eXperience (UX). The goal is to understand the interwoven new ways humans interact with each other and their environments through emerging technologies and to develop cutting-edge technologies and understanding about Hybrid Spaces.
The successful candidate should have a track record in Mixed Reality research, including Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, and HCI/UX with strong analytical skills and experience in designing and conducting user studies. Previous Post-Doctoral research experience in HCI and UX or related areas and experience in research grant proposal development are desirable.
This position is available on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2026.
