The School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee is a world-class academic institution with a reputation for the excellence of its research, its high-quality teaching and student experience, and the strong impact of its activities outside academia. With 900 staff from over 60 countries worldwide, the School provides a multi-national, collegiate and diverse environment with state-of-the-art laboratory, technology and teaching facilities.
A core ethos of the School of Life Sciences is to have accessible scientific facilities that enable all staff and students to harness cutting-edge technology for discovery and translation while maximising effective and efficient use. In house early-stage spin-out companies also benefit from access to accelerate their development. To best manage our core facilities, many of our major technology platforms have been incorporated into a Centre for Advanced Scientific Technologies. CAST is run by dedicated staff who ensure equipment is properly specified, operated and maintained. They contribute to experimental design and coordinate PhD student and postdoc tra! ining. Ou r scientific facilities are subject to external reviews allowing critical evaluation that assists in sustaining excellence.
Details of our facilities are at www.dundee.ac.uk/life-sciences/facilities and include the National Phenotypic Screening Centre (NPSC), the FingerPrints Proteomics Facility, X-Ray Crystallography, a Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Facilit! y, the Dundee Imaging Facility, a Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Facility, a Data Analysis Group (DAG) and Cryo-Electron Microscopy. The role will initial ly concentrate on securing work for the FingerPrints Proteomics Facility, Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Facility, Data Analysis group (DAG) and the Dundee Imaging Facility from sources outside of the University, including other universities and industry. This work will fill spare capacity in the facilities and so secure income to fund the next generation of equipment. This role is central to delivering that through developing an awareness of the facilities capabilities, identifying external organisations that require such capabilities and then selling facility capacity to those organisations. Both new and repeat business will be important.
