We are an ambitious and modern University: and we’re looking for ambitious people who can help us harness the power of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science to tackle global challenges.

Through our Strategy 2030, we take seriously our role in shaping a fairer, brighter and carbon-neutral future.

Within this context, the world is changing rapidly as a result of the power of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. This can be seen in almost every walk of life and at every level of society. Educating the next generation of data scientists and artificial intelligence practitioners and conducting research in this vital field are very much part of responding to this global challenge.

Through the launch of the University’s new Centre of Excellence for Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Modelling (DAIM), we are responding to the increasing need for qualified practitioners by delivering a step-change in the provision of educational excellence – and high-quality research – which cut across traditional disciplinary departmental and faculty boundaries.

We are significantly investing and contributing to the AI world of today and tomorrow - and this investment brings a fantastic opportunity for a Lecturer to join us at the Centre of Excellence on a permanent basis. The ideal candidate will build our research and knowledge exchange strengths within DAIM, along with enhancing academic support and teaching provision for our students. Afterall, you’ll be educating the next generation of data scientists and artificial intelligence practitioners, responding to the increasing need in this field, and conducting high quality research which cuts across traditional disciplinary departmental and faculty boundaries.

We are looking for outstanding individuals with expertise in Artificial Intelligence or Data Science, coupled with specialist knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Application of Earth Observation and Geospatial data in the study of Global Environmental Challenges.
  • Development of novel AI and Machine Learning algorithms for the analysis of complex Earth Observation and Geospatial datasets.
  • Integration of Geospatial and digital datasets to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction.
  • Embedding Earth Observation and geospatial datasets in Earth Systems Science.

DAIM Lecturers will be expected to undertake research and/or knowledge exchange activities within the fields of Data Science, Modelling, and/or Artificial Intelligence in areas including, but not limited to: development and processing of EO data streams and datacubes, modelling & numerical analysis, high performance computing, EO image analysis and data science, machine learning, and computer science & visualisation. Ultimately, we are an education institution – it’s our bread and butter! Ideally you will hold a good degree, and a PhD or equivalent, with experience in teaching and research in at least one aspect of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. However, we also recognise the value that significant and relevant work experience can bring to an individual’s skillset. All applicants should have Python Programming skills.

The role of Lecturer is being advertised at band 7 and band 8. If you wish to be considered for more than one band, you will need to submit a separate online application form for each position.

To discuss this role informally please contact Dr Kevin Pimbblet (Director) at k.pimbblet@hull.ac.uk
