The Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute (ARUK-ODDI) is seeking a Research Assistant who will play a key part in driving the translational goals of our project teams. You will become an integral part of project teams working on drug discovery projects and employ cutting edge biochemical and biophysical techniques to explore protein structure-function, to identify novel ligands for the targets of interest, and to understand the molecular pharmacology of the target proteins.
You will be responsible for managing your own research on a number of dementia projects and administrative activities. You will develop cellular, biochemical and biophysical assays and optimise them for utilisation in high throughput screening campaigns and compound evaluation cascades and determine the most appropriate methodologies to test compounds and identify suitable alternatives if technical problems arise. You will also be responsible for general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables.
It is essential that you hold a degree in Biochemistry, Pharmacology or other Biology-related subject, together with relevant laboratory experience. You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in establishing assay protocols, in particular enzyme activity assays, considering throughput, specificity and robustness, and you will be able to manage own research with an eye for detail and take responsibility for administrative activities. Experience in HTRF, AlphaLISA, BLI, SPR, or mass spectrometry is desirable.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 24 months and is funded by Alzheimer's Research UK.
