The University of Manchester invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for two 0.5 positions in Library and Archive Studies.

The successful candidates will play an important role in establishing and delivering the new MA in Library and Archive Studies at the University of Manchester. Based at the John Rylands Research Institute and Library (JRRIL) and the Department of Art History and Cultural Practices, they will join teams promoting our world-leading library collections, delivering library and special collections services, and running our existing successful programmes within the department including Art Gallery and Museum Studies, and Arts Management and Cultural Policy. They will also contribute to collaborative teaching.

They will provide the capacity for expansion and development in the area of Library and Archive Studies by supporting our existing commitments to excellence in taught programmes, postgraduate research supervision, and professional development.

The successful candidates will be knowledgeable about contemporary research in library and/or archive studies, the policy and management of cultural items and their records, and will have experience of teaching in the field of library and/or archive studies. Applications are welcome from library or archive professionals with appropriate academic qualifications.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview and will be asked to give a presentation to staff and students.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as black and minority ethnic (BME) candidates are currently under-represented at this level in this area, we would particularly welcome applications from BME applicants. All appointments will be made on merit. The post offers an opportunity to make a significant contribution to AHCP’s teaching and knowledge exchange. We welcome applicants whose academic training interests are in librarianship, archive studies, and information sciences, broadly defined.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
