We invite applications to our early career expression of interest process which allows us to select and support outstanding early career researchers to apply for externally funded research grants and fellowships. We seek to support excellent candidates at the start of their academic careers, typically those who have undertaken 2-4 years of postdoctoral research. Successful applicants must demonstrate an innovative research idea, a proposal for its implementation and have demonstrated research outputs. The research topic should be a significant piece of new publishable work (which should not be a reworking or extension of postdoctoral or doctoral research topics).
Applications are especially welcome from women and minority ethnic candidates, who are underrepresented in Chemistry.
We support applicants across all branches of Chemistry, including those with interests at disciplinary interfaces. Examples of fellowships that we support include, but are not limited to, EPSRC Open Fellowship, ERC Starting Grant, Royal Society University Research Fellowship and Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship, Cancer Research UK – Career Development Award, Wellcome Trust – Early Career Award and Career Development Award, Daphne Jackson Fellowship and the MRC Career Development Award.
Successful applicants will join a vibrant and inclusive research community. The Department and University offer a programme of training and development courses for researchers designed to support you in carrying out your research and progressing your career. We seek to support our early career research fellows in applying for permanent academic positions both here and elsewhere.
The Department holds a Silver Athena award in recognition of its efforts to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality and create a better working environment for both men and women. Oxford University is one of only 10 UK universities to have been awarded a Race Equality Charter Bronze Award.
To apply please submit the following documents directly to the Head of Department’s Office at execasstchem@chem.ox.ac.uk, before midday on Tuesday, 23rd May 2023.
Short-listed candidates will be invited to interview (on-line or in person) and successful candidates will receive departmental support for a year, which covers all available fellowship deadlines. All our early career fellowship holders are offered a mentor. Our Research Facilitators will guide you through all aspects of the fellowships application process and can offer help with application feedback, costings and interview preparation.
