We are seeking a highly motivated, academically excellent and proactive Postdoctoral Researcher with a strong background in innate immunity to join the Genomics of Inflammation group of Professor Irina Udalova at the University of Oxford.

You will be carrying out MRC-funded research in the impact of controlled modulation of neutrophil activity on the immunopathology of intestinal inflammation, within the established productive scientific collaboration with the Mucosal Immunology laboratory (led by Prof Fiona Powrie). You will be using unique in vitro tools and newly generated mouse strains, advanced immunological and imaging approaches and innovative single cell genomic technologies to study how inhibition of neutrophil activation may reduce the inflammatory burden suffered during inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and specifically ulcerative colitis (UC).

You will take responsibility for the planning and execution of high quality research, ensuring the validity and reliability of data at all times, co-oridnate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines and use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment.

You will be based at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford, which is a world-leading research centre where discovery research drives development of transformative therapies for chronic inflammatory and degenerative disease. You will benefit from intellectually stimulating vibrant international research environment and outstanding support facilities.

You will hold a PhD (or near completion) in immunology, molecular and cellular biology, or similar. You will demonstrate capacity to deliver high quality research outputs, illustrated by a strong publication record in immunological journals. Expertise in neutrophil biology, in vivo models of intestinal inflammation, advanced imaging techniques or spatial single cell and genomics approaches would be desirable.

This is a full-time appointment fixed-term for 3 years.

Please note that the successful candidate will need to be in post by 03/10/2023.

Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:

You will be required to upload a supporting statement, CV and names of referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 14 April 2023.
