The Department of International Relations integrates international relations scholarship with regional expertise in both the Eastern and Western parts of the enlarged European Union together with the wider European neighborhood. The department's commitment to international relations theory—in both its traditional and critical forms, and to the two major sub-disciplines of security studies and international political economy—forms the foundation of the program, complemented by a necessary multi-disciplinary approach to the study of the EU and its role as a global actor.
Its highly competitive programs—which attract top-level graduate students from around the world at both master's and doctoral levels—provide an enriching environment for study and research on issues that concern today's globalizing world. The faculty includes scholars from the disciplines of international relations, history, law, economics and comparative politics.
CEU is an English-language, student-focused research university located in Vienna and accredited both in Austria and the United States. Our student/faculty ratio (7:1) allows for small, research-driven and discussion-based seminars and close guidance from faculty members.
MA in International Relations / 1 YEAR / This program gives students a strong foundation in international affairs. For a 360-degree perspective on international events, their causes and consequences, you will take courses in three different tracks: Global Order and Politics, Conflict and Security. MA in International Relations / 2 YEARS / This program is designed for candidates who graduated from a threeyear bachelor’s program and wish to deepen their thinking about the workings of international relations. The majority of our students are eligible for financial aid regardless of their nationality. We currently offer a merit based partial tuition awards for the applicants who submit their application for the 2023-24 academic year by February 1, 2023 (23:59 CET).
