The School of Health, Wellbeing and Social Care, Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies (WELS) invites applications from UK based candidates for a 3-year full-time PhD studentship starting in October 2023.
The post offers a unique opportunity for an intellectually curious and driven individual to design and pursue their own doctoral research in an area that provides results that can potentially benefit cardiovascular health services and/or the physical or mental health and/or well-being of people using them.
The Research Study
We recognise that a PhD candidate must ‘own’ the research they are conducting to motivate them to complete the 3-year journey. To support this process, we require prospective candidates to submit a brief proposal as part of the application process. Candidates are advised to contact Professor Felicity Astin (Felicity.Astin@open.ac.uk) to discuss their proposal before submission.
The Studentship
The studentship will be fully funded for 3 years by The Open University. The studentship covers tuition fees, provides a stipend of approximately £17,668 per year and a research support and training grant (£1,000 per annum for 3 years). The holder of this studentship will work 30 hours per month, as a Band 5 or 6, in a clinical 2 area that provides care for patients with cardiovascular disease at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The supervisory team will include academic and clinical supervisors at OU and OUH. Further information about studying for a research degree at the OU is available here.
