Term: Fixed term (12 months), Part-time 0.72FTE.

The role

Northeastern University London wishes to appoint a Teaching Assistant in Mathematics. The appointee’s main role will be to support Mathematics teaching at the University, primarily at Level 4 (1st year undergraduate).

We wish to appoint a specialist with experience in teaching Mathematics, to support with a range of teaching roles, which may include elements of group and individual teaching or tutoring. An interest in the teaching of Mathematics to diverse audiences is an asset, and the role is focused on instructing students who are not partaking in a pure Mathematics degree.

Core duties will include building and maintaining the provision of structured Mathematics support for a range of Mathematics courses, including Calculus for Business (mostly Business or Social Science students) and Mathematical Methods I, II, and III (mostly Science and Engineering majors). The appointee will work closely with the Course Leaders of a range of Mathematics courses, to ensure the provision meets the requirements of the students.

We are open to appointing on a reduced fraction/job-share basis subject to our business needs.

Department

In the first instance, the appointee will work in a multidisciplinary team under the Dean for Education in Business and Economics. In a typical academic year, the team includes 20-25 academic staff, including academics in Economics, Business, Marketing, Mathematics, Statistics, and Finance & Accounting. At present, the Mathematics team is comprised of 5 colleagues, with a growing engagement also with instructors in Physics, Chemistry, Data Science, Computer Science, and other adjacent fields.

The quality of teaching in the Faculty is high, as evidenced, for example, through scores in the National Student Survey and External Examiner reports.

Qualifications

  • Masters, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area.

  • Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability so as to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in undertaking the role as advertised with regards to teaching
  • Ability to develop and deliver excellent educational provision in the required areas
  • Ability to provide support in relation to education provision, including organisation and coordination as required
  • Ability to provide excellent, personalised support to students, including through office hours and other forms of individual teaching.
