JOB DESCRIPTION
In September 2011, Maastricht University has started bachelor education in the natural sciences with the Maastricht Science Programme. In the meantime, the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) has been established in 2018, which currently has 3150 students and 450 staff members. FSE is home to several new education and research initiatives, amongst which are three new master programmes in Biobased Materials, Systems Biology and Imaging Engineering. It is the ambition of Maastricht University to further strengthen these programmes and to develop additional programmes in science and engineering in the future.
We are searching for a talented and motivated candidate with a solid background in any area of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to join our team as director of studies master education. Initial focus of the appointment will be on the day-to-day educational management of the above mentioned three master programmes. With the growth of the faculty the director will also be involved in the development of new programs as well as facilitating synergy between existing programs.
The candidate should have a strong educational track record in one of the STEM areas, including prior experience in educational management, accreditation and programme development, preferably in an international setting. The candidate needs to have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, since this is the main focus area of this position. In addition to educational management, the candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching courses, skills and projects for master students. The candidate will also have the opportunity to supervise master thesis students in their research endeavours. However, academic research will not be the major activity of the candidate.
