We’re looking for a passionate and knowledgeable individual to help us meet our ambitious sustainability goals.

The University of Sheffield has ambitions to be one of the most sustainable research universities in the country. In 2020, we published our ambitious five-year sustainability strategy. We’re aiming to be carbon-neutral on campus by 2030 and across all of our activities by 2038.

To do this, we need teams and individuals across the University to work together to undertake impactful sustainability projects. The Communications Assistant for sustainability sits in our central Sustainability Projects and Communications Team to help coordinate this activity and communicate our sustainability impact to internal and external audiences.

You will place a central role in our sustainability governance structure; organising and attending meetings of connected sustainability staff, students and academics to keep track of projects and drive forward improvements. You will work across areas such as Education for Sustainable Development, sustainable careers and sustainability research, while also helping to design and implement interventions to influence staff and student behaviour in all areas of sustainability.

We need someone with great organisational skills who can keep track of a variety of projects and tasks at once. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience of writing news stories, case studies and copy for social media and websites. You need to be comfortable working with staff at all levels and be able to use your own initiative to solve problems.

We are committed to enabling our employees to work in a hybrid model with flexibility over when, where and how to achieve the required outputs, in discussion with your manager.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
