Cardiff University was established in 1883. Our motto, Gwirionedd, Undod a Chytgord - ‘Truth, Unity and Concord’ - sets out our founding commitment to work together to make a positive and lasting difference to our communities and continues to express our commitment today. We are one of the largest universities in the UK and a member of the Russell Group. Our vision is to be a world-leading, research-excellent, and educationally outstanding global university with a transformative social, cultural and economic impact for Cardiff, Wales, the UK and the world. We are firmly grounded in our sense of place. As the largest university in Wales – and a major employer, with more than 7,000 staff – we work with society, industry and government to help overcome the most urgent challenges of our times.
We are now seeking to appoint a Head of the School of Chemistry, a leading chemistry school with a clear mission to tackle the important scientific challenges of the 21st century. Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor International and Student Recruitment and Head of College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, the new Head of School will build on strong academic foundations and oversee the delivery of excellent education and student experience, foster leading research that matters globally, and inspire an inclusive culture for students and staff.
Candidates will have exceptional leadership and management capabilities alongside an outstanding academic record in a relevant field. They will be outstanding communicators who can inspire, lead and motivate colleagues across the School. Crucially, they will be able to lead change and deliver against the strategic priorities of the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering and the wider University. A demonstrable commitment to nurturing an inclusive environment for students and staff is essential, alongside a personal commitment to the core principles of opportunity, openness, transparency and respect for all.
