We are seeking a Funding Development Officer to join Salford’s Funding Development Team to provide research bid development support. This is a fixed term role that will provide 24 months of secondment cover.
The Funding Development Team is part of the Research and Enterprise Division, and its primary purpose is to provide:
Advice and support with the submission of funding proposals to UK and International public funders such as Research councils, EU, Leverhulme, UK Government, British Academy, Wellcome Trust.
Horizon scanning and intelligence on the external research funding environment and identification of appropriate funding opportunities.
Support all aspects of bid development, from the initial concept to final submission
Reporting to the Strategic Bidding Manger the post-holder will assist applicants across the University to develop bids and secure significant amounts of new contract research awards. Specifically, the post-holder will ensure that the proposals are of the highest possible quality. The post holder will coordinate and manage large scale, multi-sector, multi-partner bids, including those led by Salford, and working with lead organisations on bids where Salford is a partner, Other support will include developing budgets, identifying funding match, facilitating peer review, and securing institutional approvals. The post-holder will also work with Schools and the Researcher Development Coordinator to provide focussed training and development to academic staff to support capacity and capability development.
The post holder will have in-depth knowledge and experience with the submission of contract research funding proposals and co-ordinating the development of large bids and will have excellent knowledge of current UK research funders and an understanding of UK research policy for the HE sector. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate considerable initiative and will be working with a wide variety of colleagues across the University. The post will involve attending meetings and travelling and sometimes require the post holder to work outside normal hours.
