The role
Bristol Veterinary School (BVS) is expanding in research capacity, driven by the implementation of an integrated Research Strategy and the development of unique, state-of-the-art research facilities. The strength of our research strategy in the University and School is evident from the results of the REF2021, with 94% of our research achieving the top 'world-leading' 4* rating or ‘internationally excellent’ 3* rating, and as the only UK vet school to receive a 100% 4* rating for research impact - ‘outstanding in terms of reach and significance’. To harness these exciting opportunities, we are now looking to expand our critical research mass in our priority areas through strategic hiring of a qualified veterinarian who has completed PhD level training and has aspirations of becoming a leading clinical academic in the future but is yet to complete specialist clinical training and board certification.
This is an opportunity for a talented veterinarian to complete specialist training and undertake independent postdoctoral-level research with the expectation that this will position the candidate to be able to apply and be competitive for substantive fellowships at a national/international level offered by funding bodies such as the MRC and The Wellcome Trust.
What will you be doing?
During this 5-year appointment, this clinical research fellowship offers an exciting opportunity for an aspiring clinical academic to complete specialist clinical training and a period of cutting-edge postdoctoral research. The area of specialist training will align with the disciplines that have established residency programmes in LV. It is anticipated that the research work will underpin and position the candidate to be able to apply and be competitive for the award of an externally funded fellowship.
You should apply if
We are therefore looking for an individual who is on track to lead a cutting-edge research programme whilst still engaging in specialist clinical activity. This post will both complement our programmes and spearhead new lines of collaborative research, innovation, and impact.
