Overview

We are looking for a Senior Research Technician to join a research group led by Profs Michael Lisanti and Federica Sotgia, part of the Human and Natural Sciences (HANS) directorate. The position is for an initial 12-month period. The research group is focused on breast cancer, with a specific interest in understanding the role of cancer stem cells, and tumour metabolism in conferring tumour recurrence, metastasis, and drug resistance. Another area of research interest is ageing and senescence. The project will require the use of immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and flow cytometry applied to relevant samples.

The primary aim of the role is to be responsible for many experimental aspects of the project. This will require the post-holder to introduce, evaluate and apply contemporary techniques to cell cultures and formalin-fixed tissue samples for the detection of biomarkers of ageing and cancer.

Key responsibilities

1) Introduce, evaluate and apply contemporary techniques to cell cultures and formalin-fixed tissue samples for the detection of biomarkers of ageing and cancer

2) Experience of using immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and flow cytometry to validate biomarkers.

3) responsible for the co-planning and execution of the experiments

4) To work alongside the research project’s colleagues to plan and execute the experiments related to the detection of relevant biomarkers
