About the role
The role’s main responsibilities will be working with academic staff to prepare and support technical demonstrations in Biology and Biomedical Science. A student facing role, the successful candidate will work directly with students to give technical guidance and support in the classroom, on dissertations and research projects, while having primary responsibility for managing, maintaining, and supporting microbiological teaching and research.
About you
We’re looking for applicants who are passionate about Science. You should hold a relevant Science Degree or equivalent and be capable of undertaking preparation and analytical work and have good laboratory organisational management. You should have experience of undertaking microbiological techniques and analysis ideally focused on medical microbiology, maintaining bacterial stock cultures and growth media preparation. IT skills across Microsoft Office packages are essential, and familiarity with statistical software packages including ‘R’ is desirable.
We’re looking for a team player who can also work on their own initiative and is willing to take on a mentoring role as necessary. Good organisational skills and time management are also key. The post will involve bending and lifting so manual handling experience is essential. An ability to drive a minibus/willingness to learn is desirable.

The science laboratories comprise a suite of five teaching labs, several project and prep rooms, a chemical store and an analytical suite. These areas and the Technical Team which supports them deliver practical work for modules in various courses. The labs are also used for research. Several labs have been subject to considerable investment and refurbishment recently and the analytical suite is equipped to run analyses using MP-AES, GC and HPLC.
