University of Leiden - Leiden Learning and Innovation Centre (LLInC)

Leiden University is looking for a Director for the Leiden Learning and Innovation Centre.

About LLInC

The Leiden Learning and Innovation Centre (LLInC) is a new center at Leiden University, established to bring professional educational support together with expertise in didactics and in educational innovation.

At LLInC we use our talents and enthusiasm to develop and support first-class education at Leiden University. Our multidisciplinary team of about 50 professionals works closely with teachers in all of the university’s faculties to develop and deploy techniques and tools that make learning attractive, innovative, accessible and inclusive.

Collaboration and creativity are paramount. We are not afraid to experiment and take risks. We prioritize developments and solutions that positively impact education, students and faculty — and thereby help our university engage in social impact for a better world.

LLInC focuses on:

  • Design of activating forms of learning, and the development and deployment of innovative forms of teaching, including digital tools for the blended university;
  • Provision of support and tools to make education impactful, accessible and inclusive;
  • Teacher professionalization through training and coaching. Providing customized courses, team coaching and workshops;
  • Innovation expertise. Developing and implementing educational innovation; sharing and presenting best practices;
  • Educational quality assurance. Advising on (digital) testing, processing course evaluations and written exams. Advising on the preparation and implementation of accreditation processes;
  • Data responsibility, intellectual property and policy. Advising and leveraging expertise in education policy development and privacy and data protection.

Your duties

As Director of LLInC, you will:

  • Lead an international, enthusiastic and diverse team of multi-disciplinary professionals. An important task is to work with the team to further develop LLInC as a central point for educational support, development and innovation within the university;
  • Report directly to the Rector Magnificus. The Education Council (consisting of vice-deans of education of the faculties) serves as an advisory board for the development and implementation of the university's strategic educational vision;
  • Develop LLInC’s portfolio strategy in close cooperation with the university’s faculties and expertise centers, and oversee its implementation. You identify relevant didactic and technological trends and develop the vision on educational innovation for Leiden University;
  • Make the successful services of LLInC well known so that they can be widely used within the university, and in university networks;
  • Make an important contribution to accelerating change and innovation in education and education policy within university organisations, working closely with the faculties and other (policy) boards;
  • Develop medium and long-term educational policies together with the LLInC team, relating and contributing to the university's strategic agenda. The education policy will be characterized by a good and efficient transfer of knowledge and expertise, in order to scale up successful innovative didactic and technical methods;
  • Develop plans in collaboration with other service departments for the further implementation of cooperation with, and service delivery to, the faculties based on Service Level Agreements (SLAs);
  • Represent LLInC within Leiden University and in contact with external partners (e.g., LDE, SURF, LERU, UnaEuropa), developing and maintaining strategic relationships in the university network;
  • Develop and implement a sound organizational and business model that enables LLInC to successfully carry out its mission;
  • Be responsible for the financial and human resources management of LLInC, including implementing inclusive human resources policies and providing space for the personal development of employees.

 Your profile

  • You are an inspiring and connecting leader, change agent and innovator with an academic level of thinking. An academic education is highly recommended. Preferably you have experience in the field of educational science, educational innovation and/or academic governance;
  • You are result oriented and have a clear vision of the future of technology and education and its impact on society; knowledge of and experience with ICT applications in (higher) education is a plus;
  • You have the ability to communicate this vision, and inspire people and organisations inside and outside the university to explore, experiment with and apply relevant innovations in higher education;
  • You have a talent for initiating and guiding initiatives that present challenges, and for setting up innovative and entrepreneurial projects within a university context and/or in an external environment;
  • You have knowledge of, and a feel for, working within the university context and governance structure;
  • You know your strengths and development points when it comes to the four leadership competencies of Leiden University — connecting, collaborating, taking responsibility, pushing boundaries — and can use them to strengthen the university;
  • You have experience in project management, finance and acquisition processes;
  • You have excellent communication and networking skills, creativity and team spirit;
  • You function effortlessly in an international environment, have a good eye for diversity and inclusiveness within the LLInC team and within the university, and have an excellent spoken and written command of both Dutch and English or willing to improve this on short term.
