The Post
The Division of Computing Science and Mathematics at the University of Stirling is seeking to appoint a professor as part of a significant expansion of our division. The successful applicant will be an academic leader with responsibility for developing and shaping the direction of Computing Science at Stirling.
We are seeking a professor in a field of artificial intelligence such as machine learning, natural language, computer vision, or knowledge representation. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience of applying AI to real world problems either in industry or in other research fields such as health and wellbeing, sport, environmental monitoring and sensing, or food production.
You will have a proven track record of attracting large scale research funding and a network of research collaborators. As a research leader, you will be part of a team responsible for developing and implementing research strategy across the Division, working with individual researchers and larger research groups. You will contribute to the success of the division in attracting large scale funding, developing international collaborations, and producing world class research.
The division is investing heavily in growth over the course of 2023, aiming to recruit ten new members of staff, offering us the opportunity to develop bold new initiatives. The division is growing rapidly and you will find an ambitious and friendly research environment with a focus on solving some of the largest problems faced by society today. Stirling encourages a collaborative research environment and you will have the opportunity to work with colleagues in computing and in other fields such as psychology, health, sport, management, environmental science and aquaculture.
You will help to grow teams that pursue impactful research aimed at solving real-world problems such as sustainability, healthy aging, and food security. In your role as a research leader, you will help colleagues form collaborations, develop their personal research strategy and maximise their potential for gaining funding. We have a diverse and modern teaching portfolio including undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Scotland, UAE, Muscat and China. These include programmes in artificial intelligence and data science.
We also run fully online degrees and a range of online short courses. We would particularly welcome candidates with an interest in lifelong learning and widening access. Our work-based learning offerings include a graduate apprenticeship in Data Science and a professional doctorate programme.
