We are looking for a motivated post-doctoral researcher to join our team at the University of Liverpool, developing novel antimicrobial surface coatings for urinary catheters. This interdisciplinary research position, funded by Kidney Research North West, will involve working at the interface of surface chemistry and microbiology. The position is based in the Department of Clinical Infection, Microbiology and Immunology but you will work closely with colleagues in the Department of Chemistry. We are seeking a candidate with a background in surface chemistry or microbiology. The role will involve optimising formulations and methodologies for synthesis of polymers that have antimicrobial properties and that are suitable for use as surface coatings. You will be required to handle hazard group 2 microorganisms, including clinical isolates from urinary tract infection, for the purposes of antimicrobial testing. The latter part of the project will require testing the safety and efficacy of catheter coatings in in vitro and in vivo infection models. Although based at the University of Liverpool, the role will involve a short research placement at the University of Dundee and there will be opportunity to attend national and international conferences. You should have a PhD in surface Chemistry or Microbiology. The post is available for 3 years.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received
