Permanent and Full Time (37 hours per week)

A bit about you... 

Are you highly motivated with existing GIS and modelling skills?

Are you interested in developing your skills further?

Reporting to Professor Laurence Jones, you will be creating and applying spatial models for a range of situations, with particular focus on analysis in urban settings. The research scope is flexible depending on your interests and skills.

We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any of the following: ecological, social, health or biological data.

Main Responsibilities 

  • Developing spatial models around biodiversity potential in urban areas 
  • Bringing your GIS and modelling expertise to evaluate green infrastructure benefits for a range of pressures, including heat, pollution, noise, and others
  • Working collaboratively and flexibly within the urban ecosystem services team, with other specialists in UKCEH and project partners 
  • Interpreting results and communicating those to specialists and non-specialists in a variety of formats
  • Contributing expertise to funding proposals, papers and reports, including as lead author 

Here are some essential skills we are looking for: 

  • PhD or equivalent experience (in relevant subject e.g., environment, health or social science)
  • Analysing geographical and spatial information (GIS i.e. ArcGIS, QGIS, R, and/or Python)
  • Scripting for analysis and data processing in R, Python or similar
  • Management of large datasets 

We would be delighted if you also had the following skills/experience:- 

One or more of the following: 

  • Spatial, statistical or process-based models
  • Ecological data
  • Biodiversity data
  • Health data
  • Social or economic data

and

  • Willingness and ability to travel overseas (for up to a week at a time)
