The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is a research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is an entitythat brings together nine partnersto create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, more information can be found at www.ukri.org.
Applications are invited for a Research Support Officer in the group of Dr Ingo Greger to undertake research into the organisation of synaptic AMPA glutamate receptor complexes, using biochemical and structural biology approaches (cryo-EM).
To work within a programme in the laboratory of Dr Ingo Greger at the MRC LMB, Cambridge aimed at studying the molecular basis of synaptic transmission focusing on AMPA glutamate receptors. Specifically, the post holder will use a combination of molecular biology, biochemical and structural biology approaches to investigate the organisation of AMPA receptor complexes and their interaction with modulatory drugs.
This project builds on our recent structural and functional work (Herguedas et al., Science 2016 & 2019; Dohrke et al., JBC 2020; Zhang et al., Nature 2021; Zhang et al., Nature Comms. 2023 in press [available as BioRxiv preprint]; reviewed in: Greger et al., Neuron 2017; Greger & Mayer; Curr. Opin. Struct. Biol. 2019) and aims to characterise AMPA receptor complexes by cryo-EM.
The successful candidates will work in collaboration with electrophysiologists and with structural biologists in the lab. We also collaborate with other labs in the LMB, with AstraZeneca, and with chemists developing novel AMPAR therapeutics. There will be ample opportunity to learn a number of techniques and to refine existing ones.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD or MSc and experience with protein biochemistry and structural biology. Evidence of strong experimental skills is strongly desirable.
For further details please get in touch: Ingo Greger; ig@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.
The successful applicant will be awarded a Research Support Officer position In Dr Ingo Greger’s group with funding to 30 September 2026.
