Coventry University is a leading innovator in education committed to creating better futures by empowering students and communities to transform their lives and society through teaching, learning research and enterprise. We are gold rated in the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and the top Modern University in the Midlands in 2021. This academic year, a brand new, state of the art University building will host courses in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities enabling us to further push the boundaries of collaboration and innovation and the student experience.
As we are developing exciting new courses and updating the curriculum of our existing provision, we are seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to join us as the Associate Head for Student Experience in the School of Media and Performing Arts to lead the School through its next phase of growth and further development of its portfolio. This will see you working to deliver an ambitious strategic vision, which defines the future of Media and Performing Arts education at Coventry and developing new ways for our students and staff to engage in a wide range of industry and international collaborations. The Associate Head of School role provides an opportunity for a talented and ambitious academic who wants to apply managerial skills and experience, alongside strategic thinking, within a highly creative context.
The role offers an opportunity to make a leading contribution to the School of Media and Performing Arts by:
Working closely with the Head of School to drive forward the School's contribution to the University's 2030 Corporate Plan, and working with senior leadership in the faculty to ensure delivery of a high-quality teaching and learning experience.
Supporting the Head in representing the School internally and externally, and implementing policies and procedures at School level.
Line managing academic staff in the School and supporting their career development goals which are aligned with the creative, collaborative ethos of the School.
The successful candidate will either have a PhD alongside experience in a relevant subject area or they will have equivalent professional practice or industry experience and a relevant postgraduate qualification coupled with experience in a relevant subject area.
An excellent track record in teaching and learning and evidence of being able to deliver an innovative, student-centred experience is important. You should also have a sound awareness of the HE international market/environment and the ability to take advantage of academic and commercial opportunities to collaborate with the creative industries all around the world. You will need an understanding of innovative approaches to teaching and learning including the utilisation of online/digital/multi-platform applications.
