Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is one of the UK's leading research-focused higher education institutions, a member of the elite Russell Group of UK universities and joint 7th in the UK for the quality of its research in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework. The Chemistry submission, in particular, was ranked in the top 10 in the UK for research outputs and impact. Computational research at QMUL is supported by the shared High Performance Computing facility Apocrita (12,000+ computing cores). QMUL is also a partner in the Materials and Molecular Modelling (MMM) Hub, a UK-wide consortium that provides Tier-2 resources to the computational community in UK.
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader in Computational Chemistry, as part of our ongoing investment and expansion in research excellence. You will be expected to develop an innovative teaching and research portfolio in Computational Chemistry, publishing world-class research that will lead to a successful externally funded research program supporting postdoctoral research staff and PhD students, and establishing links with industry. In addition to teaching postgraduate and undergraduate students you will perform the normal administrative duties expected of a member of academic staff.
You will hold a PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline with an excellent track record of research in computational chemistry and will be expected to be committed to the delivery of high-quality teaching at postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
At QMUL, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable. Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence.
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.
The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full time, permanent appointment, with an expected start date of July 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 5-6, in the range of £45,931 - £56,921 per annum for Lecturer, Grade 7 in the range of £60,128 - £67,139 per annum for Reader and Senior Lecturer inclusive of London Allowance.
