Birkbeck is a world-class research and teaching institution, a vibrant centre of academic excellence and London’s only specialist provider of evening higher education. Birkbeck’s five-year strategy sets out a plan for ambitious change including a strong focus on high quality, flexible education.
This role has arisen from the expansion of the IT Projects function to support the delivery of a programme of change to meet our strategic objectives.
This is an exciting time to join Birkbeck. This year we celebrate 200 years since Birkbeck was founded as the London Mechanics’ Institute in 1823. Some of our current projects include a new Lifelong Learning Guarantee to support Birkbeck students and alumni in their lifelong learning journeys.
Our new Creative Inclusive Learning project introduces HyFlex technology into classrooms to synchronise learning in physical spaces seamlessly with online learning and establishes a virtual reality and immersive learning environment.
As well as introducing a new Student Engagement solution to improve Birkbeck’s student continuation and attainment levels, we have a range of infrastructure projects planned - replacing primary firewalls, upgrading core switches, securely integrating to AWS & Azure cloud infrastructure, as well as upgrading network capability and integrating new buildings.
We are seeking 2 experienced Project Managers to help us achieve our strategic objectives and really make a difference in shaping our future.
Reporting to the Head of IT Projects, it is a chance to lead on multiple strategic projects and provides an opportunity for you to contribute to a renewal of underpinning project processes to support this.
We are looking for candidates that have demonstrable experience of leading complex IT projects, ensuring they stay on time and on budget. Using strong communication and organisational skills, you will manage projects through the project lifecycle, working closely with stakeholders across the institution to maximise the value and benefits from our projects.
