Working within the mechanical workshop, the job purpose is to provide mechanical and laboratory support within school. With the development, construction, manufacture, and repair of equipment to support teaching and research activities.
Using a high degree of technical expertise, provide design and manufacturing advice and assistance to staff and students. This includes the design, construction and maintenance of experimental apparatus, using a full range of conventional and CNC machine tools, bench equipment and fabrication / welding equipment.
Provide specialist technical support to laboratories involving the use of mechanical and maintenance skills, specialised experimental rigs and equipment.
Prepare and install models, rigs, associated instrumentation and teaching equipment for timetabled laboratory schedules.
Carry out testing and fault diagnosis of equipment, and the maintenance of machine tools and workshop equipment.
To ensure that a safe working environment is always maintained through compliance with Health and Safety at Work legislation and the University's Operational Procedures. This includes conducting Risk and COSHH Assessments.
Visiting external test facilities/customers/industrial sponsors, as required.
