Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.
We are now looking to appoint our Director for the School of Computer Science and Mathematics (CSM), which sits in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET). The School of CSM is divided into two main programme clusters (namely: Computer Science programmes and Mathematics programmes with 9 and 3 programmes each); and the school provides a high-quality research and teaching environment. The School of CSM was formed from the Departments of Computer Science and Mathematics in August 2020 and it has 62 (FTE) academic staff and approximately 1400 students across taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The school also contains the PROTECT Research Institute (Research Centre for Critical Infrastructure Computer Technology and Protection), and the Data Science Research Centre. We are student focussed with a strong research culture. We have an outstanding reputation for producing world-leading research and have business partners across the world. We have excellent partnerships locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, and are proud of the deep engagement we have with partners and the benefits this drives for our city region. This post will provide leadership, working with colleagues, to deliver an excellent, and truly transformative, experience for all students. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for an exciting portfolio which is research informed, aligned with professional requirements, internationally facing and inspirational. The faculty’s vision is to promote multi-disciplinary programme delivery, and we are keen to introduce new programmes focused on four strategic thematic areas: digital technologies, energy, sensors / autonomous systems, and sustainable living. The successful candidate will lead on the development of our faculty’s new digital technology hub which is designed to facilitate our faculty’s multi-disciplinary programme development and delivery.
You will have a proven track record in excellent academic leadership delivering a climate which enables individuals and teams to thrive and excel. Committed to inclusion and social justice you will work with a wide range of internal and external partners. You will be adept in managing complex academic areas and have an evidenced ability to think strategically whilst also delivering operational improvements. The successful candidate will join an ambitious Faculty leadership team.
In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction, and development support as well as family-friendly policies.
