Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield 

This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious and capable Business School leader. You will have the scope to shape our learning and teaching strategy and be responsible for its implementation. Develop your operational leadership within a large and growing business school, leading our experienced Subject Heads and Associate Deans (Student Experience, Academic Quality, Visiting Lecturer); and build your experience working collaboratively across the University on various learning and teaching committees and projects.

The Deputy Dean title is for a period of 4 years, after which time will be considered for renewal.

Main duties & responsibilities

You will manage all aspects of the operation, administration and enhancement of the School’s taught provision (including on and off-site programmes) in accordance with and within any limits established by University policy or regulation, including but not limited to academic provision, research and commercial activity. It will also be expected that you work collaboratively with the Associate Deans UG and PG to develop and keep under review the School’s academic portfolio of taught programmes, (including short courses, online and degree apprenticeships) and lead the development of the Learning and Teaching related aspects of the Annual School Student Experience Report action plan. You will also be expected that you support the Dean in meeting their responsibility to Academic Board covering the academic quality assurance and standards of the academic provision within the School.

Skills and experience needed

You must have knowledge and expertise within this discipline area and a comprehensive knowledge of the UK Higher Education regulation as it relates to teaching and learning and the student experience.

We are seeking a Business and Management academic with proven senior level management and leadership skills. Someone who has a proven ability to successfully motivate a multi-disciplinary team with the aim of consistently achieving substantial positive change in teaching and learning. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, allied to an ability to influence and harness the talent of others by building successful working relationships within the School, across the University and with external organisations.

You will be highly competent in analysing multiple sources of data to achieve evidence informed decision making that will combine with excellent organisation and planning skills to underpin the implementation of effective strategies for teaching and learning. Working within the School’s Senior Leadership Team you will have experience of financial and resource management to support the delivery of strategic objectives; and be capable of upholding the University’s values of friendly, ambitious, collegiate, enterprising and student focused.

Qualifications required

For this role you must hold a Doctorate in a Business or Management related area and be a Senior Fellow of AdvanceHE (formerly the Higher Education Academy).
