The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will conduct research funded by the Australian Research Council on developing mathematical models to predict biofilm expansion.
Build your research career at the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences in a world-class research discipline of Applied Mathematics.
We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to the development of mathematical models to predict biofilm expansion. This project aims to better understand the mechanisms that inhibit and promote the growth of biofilms by comparing results from mathematical models with experiments of biofilms grown in the laboratory. Insights from the modelling and experiments of biofilms will have practical applications in biotechnological, industrial, and medical sectors. The candidate will be encouraged to develop, simulate and analyse mathematical models for biofilm growth processes independently, using partial differential equations and / or agent-based approaches. To facilitate comparison of the model with experiments, the candidate will collaborate closely with biologists at the University of Adelaide and the University of Kent (UK). Experience of using statistical methods to infer estimates of model parameters from laboratory experiments is highly desirable.
The School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences is a thriving centre of learning, teaching and research, and many of its academic staff are world leaders in their fields and graduates are highly regarded by employers.
The University offers a great range of benefits such as salary packaging, research support schemes and a range of flexible work arrangements. Apply now to be part of this unique and exciting opportunity.
