The Role and the Department

Reporting to the Finance Manager in Chemistry, the Finance Coordinator is responsible for the provision of a professional, efficient financial administrative service, taking responsibility with respect to delivery of financial data to assist Budget Holders to fulfil their objectives; coordinating other operational financial processes and providing end users with relevant guidance; supporting the procurement of goods and services. The post holder will ensure deadlines are met and service delivery standards are maintained, working in accordance with University and Departmental policies and procedures. They will liaise with PSS Divisions across the University, in particular, Finance Office, Procurement, Research and! Innovati on Services (RIS). The role holder will be mainly based in the Chemistry department but will also have the opportunity to work with the other Faculty of Science Finance Managers to provide support as needed across the other academic departments in the Faculty of Science, particularly Computer Science.

The Finance Coordinator will work as part of a team but will take responsibility for their own tasks and be expected to work independently; taking day-to-day decisions and using their experience and initiative to decide on appropriate courses of action and resolve complex problems. They will possess excellent organisational and time management skills, display initiative and flexibility, and demonstrate a commitment to customer service excellence. There will be opportunities for training to support career development and progression and also to input into the continuous improvement of financial processes. This role requires on-site working but, following successful completion of training, opportunities for hybrid! working in line with business need and arrangements of other team members will be explored with your line manager.

Your application should cover the following criteria:

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Strong digital competence with demonstrable skills in using core digital tools including internet, email, digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, digital booking system, project planning.
  • Five GCSE’s at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent experience).
  • Evidence of personal development to maintain skills.
  • Post-16 qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant experience in financial administration in a busy office environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to proactively work with team members to ensure the delivery of high quality services.
  • Demonstrable ability to provide advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues.
  • Experience of working on the front line with service delivery, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality.
  • Ability to solve problems as part of a team and resolve issues, plan solutions and make pragmatic decisions.
  • Ability to effectively network and exchange advice and information for development purposes.
  • Accuracy, numeracy and attention to detail
  • A high level of discretion and the ability of maintain confidentiality

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working in Higher Education
  • Qualification in financial management/administration
