The Hull York Medical School at the University of York seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor (Teaching & Research) in Public Health Nutrition /Applied Nutrition / Food Systems to lead on research, teaching, learning and assessment activities across the School in the areas of public health nutrition, food or food policy.

The Hull York Medical School is a different kind of Medical School. Role

The purpose of the role is to lead on activities across the School in public health nutrition, food or food policy. You should have a strong research profile; bringing a specialised knowledge in this subject area, and the ability to lead and support funding activities, and drive forward the strategic development of research. We welcome a broad range of expertise that will complement our existing themes of public health nutrition, nutrition policy, food insecurity, early years and school food, growth and development, obesity prevention and treatment, food systems, public health solutions to nutrition and food challenges, and methodological leadership in action-oriented research.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

Essential criteria assessable at shortlisting include:

  • PhD in nutrition, food or food policy, or equivalent experience.
  • Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
  • Well-established national reputation in public health nutrition.
  • Research expertise in public health nutrition, food or food policy.
  • Track record of obtaining competitive research funding.
  • Proven ability to take a leading role in the supervision of research students.
  • Ability to demonstrate major research leadership both internally and externally.
  • Ability to deliver presentations at conferences and other events, internally and externally.
  • Excellent written communications skills, to write or contribute to publications or disseminates research findings using other appropriate media.
  • A track record in research with high quality journal publications and conference presentations.
  • An extensive track record of teaching and learning in HE at undergraduate and postgraduate level or in a demonstrably similar context.
  • Willingness to work proactively with colleagues in other work areas/institutions.
  • Show commitment to the department/university outside of their chosen field, for example undertaking management and administration duties.
  • Commitment to personal development and updating of knowledge and skills.
