The Rowitch lab is seeking to appoint a research assistant or associate to manage lab imaging and sequencing data for ongoing research projects. The post-holder will have an interest in high through-put image analysis, and practical experience in data and server management. We are based in the Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI) and the Department of Paediatrics, University of Cambridge. The team uses techniques of stem cell biology, high content imaging, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics & bioengineering to study many aspects of brain development.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Senior Imaging Officer in maintaining servers and trouble-shooting of equipment problems.
  • Developing pipelines for data handling.
  • Collecting, organizing and managing imaging/sequencing data from various sources.
  • Conducting image analysis using software tools such as ImageJ, Fiji, MATLAB, Python, or other tools as needed.
  • Creating visualizations and preparing figures for presentations and publications.
  • Collaborating with other team members to support ongoing research projects.
  • Assisting with other lab duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological or computer science, ideally a Masters degree in a related field, or appropriate experience or equivalent qualification.
  • Excellent IT skills and record keeping.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in single-cell RNA-seq analysis would be advantageous.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
