Our mission as Oxford Brookes Business School (OBBS) is to ‘Inspire minds with insight and ambition’. Our doctoral students sit at the heart of this mission. The School is now accepting applications from outstanding candidates for four doctoral studentships across the research centres of: Business, Society and Global Challenges (BSGC), Oxford Regional Innovation Enterprise Lab (ORIEL), International Centre for Coaching and Mentoring Studies (ICCMS), and the Centre for Diversity Policy Research and Practice (CDPRP).
Each full-time successful candidate will be offered a studentship to start in either September 2023 or January 2024. A bursary of £17,680 per annum will be paid by the school, for three years subject to satisfactory progress. There is a possibility for the studentships to be awarded to applicants to our new distance learning PhD programme.
As a doctoral student you can transform your future through undertaking rigorous and creative research training with recognised methodological and subject experts to become an independent researcher. You will be a valued member of our supportive, vibrant, diverse and inclusive research community and thriving research centres. You will have an opportunity to develop life-long networks, produce journal articles with supervisors and engage in some teaching, if desired.
The International Centre for Coaching and Mentoring Studies specialises in cross-disciplinary research to enhance the understanding and implementation of coaching and mentoring in order to influence the development of individuals and teams in organizational and social contexts. The Centre has the largest coaching and mentoring doctoral programme in the world. We welcome research on effectiveness, process, or content of coaching/mentoring interventions, whether the intention is to advance social change, education, health and well-being, leadership or global business.
Our students conduct research that contributes to the evidence base of coaching and mentoring through critical and empirical approaches. They are supported by our highly experienced doctoral supervisors. PhD students have the opportunity to take part in many of the Centre’s regular activities including research conferences, symposia and professional networking events, as well as our long-established journal.
These are highly competitive applications, applicants are expected to hold a good undergraduate degree and a Master’s degree at merit level or above, in a relevant area. Applicants should demonstrate strong research capabilities and be fluent in spoken and written English. This bursary will be awarded against the quality of the research proposal and the ability to complete within the three year funded period.
