The School of Life Sciences is large and diverse and provides a vibrant research and teaching environment with a strong collegiate culture. We have a global reputation for our research: two-thirds of our research was rated as ‘world leading’ or ‘international excellent’ in REF 2014. We conduct research in four main areas comprising: Genomics and Computational Biology; Ecology and Environmental Microbiology; Protein Structure and Disease Mechanisms; Plant Productivity. We are now seeking a senior technician to join our expanding technicians’ team.
The School comprises in the region of 900 students supported by over 100 academic, research and support staff. In addition to Biomedical Science, undergraduate degrees are offered in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Genetics, Human Biology and Marine Biology. Our £13.2 million STEM Teaching Centre provides modern wet and computing laboratory teaching facilities. The School aims to provide students with a challenging and inspiring educational experience through research-led teaching.
Duties of the Role
The purpose of this role is to provide day-to-day dedicated specialist technical support within the School of Life Sciences in education and research. In addition, you will support the ongoing technical provision of the department including the direction of other staff as required, specifically within the Ecology and Environmental Biology research groups. You will be required to work autonomously on a regular basis with both students and staff.
Qualifications and Skills required
Applicants will be educated to degree level or possess equivalent experience in a relevant subject area.
You will have previous experience of working in a relevant laboratory environment and be able to demonstrate knowledge of Health and Safety requirements. In this varied role, you will need to be able to manage conflicting demands and be able to plan and prioritise tasks for both yourself and colleagues.
