We invite applications for a full time 30-month postdoctoral research position starting 1st of April 2023 or soon thereafter.
We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral scientist with remote sensing/geospatial analysis expertise and the passion to make a difference for the future of world’s biodiversity.
You will join a multi-disciplinary research team on the Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) and Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded project ‘Understanding the economics of biodiversity’ (http://gotw.nerc.ac.uk/list_full.asp?pcode=NE%2FX00208X%2F1). The role holder will work alongside the team and in particular support the delivery of remote sensing and geospatial analysis for biodiversity assessments across two UK sites – Attenborough Nature Reserve and the iconic KNEPP rewilding site.
You will also participate in a ‘co-ordination function’ across the NERC–ESRC Economics of Biodiversity Research Projects, which will include joining a network of researchers to developing publications bringing together research across all NERC/ESRC funded projects on the topic ‘Economics of Biodiversity’ (http://gotw.nerc.ac.uk/list_them.asp?them=Econ+Biodiversity).
A PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline and a strong understanding of geospatial analysis techniques, programming skills (R and/or Python) and environmental remote sensing (space-borne and/or UAV) approaches or submission of such a PhD are essential requirements. A proven track record in publishing in highly ranked journals and knowledge of and/or experience in in situ remote sensing approaches and/or acoustic monitoring of biodiversity would be an advantage.
Candidates should apply with a CV and cover letter stating what you would bring to the project as well as contact details of 3 referees.
We positively encourage applications from members of groups who are currently under-represented in the department, including women and people from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds.
This position is offered on a fixed term contract for 2 years and 6 months. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
Informal enquiries should be addressed to both, Dr Richard Field (richard.field@nottingham.ac.uk) and Dr Franziska Schrodt (franziska.schrodt1@nottingham.ac.uk). Please note that applications sent directly to these email addresses will not be accepted.
