Are you an early career researcher looking for a challenge? Do you have a background in organic chemistry or polymer processing? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?
We are looking for an experienced Research Technician to support the delivery of a competitive BBSRC-funded research project looking at the microbial conversion of coffee waste into bio-based polyester fibres. The project is highly multidisciplinary and involves cross-faculty collaborations between the Schools of Design and Dentistry, as well as the Leeds Institute of Textiles and Colour (LITAC).
The candidate will be required to assist with the day to day running of the research activities, including the chemical processing of coffee waste and characterisation of polymer solutions and fibres. A good general understanding of chemical extraction, polymer characterisation, or fibre spinning techniques would be advantageous, with the ability to pick up new techniques as required. Experience in training others in scientific techniques or explaining standard laboratory procedures is essential. You will also have an understanding of biological and chemical hazards, safe handling and disposal, with the ability to work safely.
Past experience in a research or teaching laboratory is essential. You should be highly motivated, organised, and able to communicate and collaborate as part of a team.
