Fixed Term Contract until 31st of December 2025
The Linguistics and English Language department in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher on a full time, fixed term basis until 31st of December 2025. This post is expected to commence in August 2023 (subject to recruitment timescales).
The Opportunity:
We are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in semantics as well as computational modelling and/or experimental methods to contribute to the project “Logic in semantic universals”, funded by the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (PI: Wataru Uegaki). The goal of the project is to uncover what core properties of human language semantic universals in logical vocabularies (including connectives, quantifiers, modals and clause-embedding predicates) are rooted in. To this end, the project will pursue an integrated approach that combines insights from formal semantics and evolutionary linguistics, building on a wide-scale cross-linguistic data collection. As a member of the project, the post-holder will contribute to the theory construction and assessment of theories using modelling and/or experimental methods, in collaboration with the project team.
