We are recruiting for a qualified or trainee careers adviser to work from our Lancaster campus. We are looking for creative, resourceful and proactive team players who have a strong motivation to support the successful career development and graduate outcomes of our students and graduates.

The Service works across all campuses of the University and online to deliver high quality, targeted careers information, advice and guidance to enhance the employability outcomes of our student and recent graduates. We support academic colleagues to embed employability within programmes through curriculum development, events management and provision of the Career Ahead employability award. We provide a pipeline to a wide range of opportunities through liaison with key stakeholders e.g. employers, internal academic and professional service colleagues, our Students’ Union and professional bodies.

 We are looking for candidates who:

  • Are highly organised and efficient, able to manage a diverse range of responsibilities and work flexibly and independently. 
  • Have well-developed digital/IT and administration skills for using our in-house  processes and systems including our careers platform My Career Enriched.
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively with others and network with a wide range of contacts. 
  • Are able to communicate effectively in both a professional and approachable way in writing and face to face.
  • Have a creative and innovative approach to delivering their work including the ability (or potential) to research, design and deliver engaging presentations and workshops
  • Are knowledgeable about (or, for trainees, keen to learn about) career development theories, coaching and guidance theory and practice and the graduate labour market. 

For the trainee post you will be qualified to degree level (2.2 minimum) and have (or be able to achieve by the end of training) a level 2 qualification in English and maths. We are open to applications from a wide range of backgrounds however experience of working within the following fields would be valuable - teaching and learning, recruitment, training, advice or coaching work. You will be required to complete a qualification in Careers Guidance (Level 6 or 7) with on the job training and support and learning online and through residentials. As a trainee, your salary will be up to £28,246.

This post will include occasional travel to other campuses including our London campus.
