Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 within UCD School of History.

The School of History, University College Dublin, is inviting applications for a three-year postdoctoral fellowships in the history of civil wars in Europe (c. 1917-1949). For this particular post a PhD related to the history of the Spanish Civil War (broadly defined), and some postdoctoral experience, is mandatory.

Successful candidates will join the ERC Advanced Grant “CivilWars” Research Group led by Professor Robert Gerwarth. The successful candidates will have written a PhD thesis on a subject directly relevant to the project, which focuses on the comparative and entangled histories of civil wars in Europe between 1917 and 1949. Areas of particular interest include comparisons and entanglements between the Russian, Finnish, Irish, Spanish and Greek civil wars. Applications are also welcome from scholars interested in thematic connections between these individual civil wars, from humanitarianism to war volunteering, from war reporting to transnational debates on counter-insurgency and policing.

This is an advanced academic research role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competences, on the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination, the development of funding proposals, and the supervision and mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

PD1 - Salary: €42,033- €48,427 per annum and PD2 - €49,790 - €54,153 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The PD2 post is intended for researchers that have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
