The role of Senior Animal Technician is set in the Biological Resource Unit (BRU) and is fundamental in supporting the research work carried out at the Institute. The role holder is a main point of contact for animal technicians, service staff and research users to deal with queries and issues as they arise.

The post holder will liaise with researchers to provide for their research needs whilst managing day-to-day care routines to the highest standard. The post will help plan resourcing to include allocation and prioritisation of duties and identifying when additional staff/support may be required. The role holder will also support the research staff by performing regulated scientific procedures essential to all research which will require a personal Home Office licence. They may also deputise on all matters in the absence of the deputy area manager.

The facility manager may also, from time to time, require the role holder to perform other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.
