The Institute for Sustainability (IfS) is recruiting a new professor to lead research in this exciting new research institute. 

The IfS brings together transdisciplinary expertise in tackling the most pressing climate and sustainability issues facing society. To support our focus on Sustainable Chemical Technologies and Sustainable Systems in the Faculty of Engineering & Design we have a new, and very exciting opportunity:

  • Professor in Industrial Decarbonisation – critical to the future of the industry in the UK we need to decarbonise our industries, but more importantly make them sustainable and socially just. Focusing on circularity of processes and systems we seek to be smart with carbon – capturing it for reuse, understanding the impact of the circular economy over a wide range of resources, and creating new and innovative processes, materials and products.

You will have a strong research and education background in a relevant discipline, with a proven track record in growing a new area of scholarship. You will be an inspiring and innovative leader who can create, deliver and embed significant change solutions. You will have a record of attracting research funding to grow teams, and a record of disseminating high-quality publications world-wide.

This is a permanent, full-time position.

About Us

The Faculty of Engineering and Design hosts four departments: Architecture & Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronic & Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. You will join one of these departments, according to best fit. All are ranked in the top 10 in national league tables. The University of Bath is presently University of the Year 2023, according to The Times / Sunday Times. Our institutional NSS results have placed us first in England two years in a row. Our Faculty hosts the new £70m IAAPS facility at the Bath Bristol Science Park, where clean mobility is the centrepiece challenge.

The IfS brings together transdisciplinary expertise in tackling the most pressing climate and sustainability issues facing society. Our core focus spans applied science and engineering, whole systems and life cycle approaches, curiosity-driven molecular science, and challenge-led fundamental science
