The ECI is seeking to appoint a senior academic who is a leading and internationally recognised scholar to provide intellectual leadership in zero carbon energy use, and act as a Programme Director for The ZERO Institute’s Programme in Zero Carbon Energy Use. The ZERO Institute, a new inter-disciplinary initiative at Oxford, seeks to play a leading role in the zero-carbon energy transition, a critical requirement to ensure global climate goals are delivered.
We seek an outstanding inter-disciplinary scholar with a demonstrable record of publication, policy engagement, income generation, impact and team leadership in energy and climate mitigation. The post holder will be a recognised authority in the field with primary responsibility for leading the programme. The post holder will play a leading role in the development of the Institute, working with the Institute Director and other programme leaders, and contributing to the development of its overall mission. The post holder will initiate, develop and lead a research programme on zero carbon energy use in the ZERO Institute.
The successful applicant will also be appointed as a Senior Research Fellow of Linacre College, where responsibilities will include contributions to College life such as attending the Governing Body, joining relevant College committees and acting as student advisor to a small number of graduate students. Drawing on its current academic strengths, Linacre is making a particular contribution to the support and promotion of environmental studies in the University. It has close links with the University's Environmental Change Institute and is in the process of developing a net zero carbon strategy.
The successful applicant will hold a relevant PhD with significant post-qualification research experience and be a leading authority in their subject with a considerable international reputation. You will demonstrate outstanding academic leadership, be able to devise research strategy and develop new avenues of research and funding. A record of successful MSc, MPhil and DPhil supervision is essential. You will have in-depth experience of leading major research programmes and leading and motivating large multidisciplinary teams. You will have an established an international publication record in high quality international journals on the topic of energy use. Experience of research collaborations at national and international level is essential.
The appointment will be available on an open-ended basis and externally funded.
