We are seeking an outstanding leader to manage and develop the new Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI) at the University of Sheffield. Supported by a £3.6m investment from the University, the CMI is a strategic initiative dedicated to the transformation and acceleration of our research, innovation and teaching via Artificial Intelligence (AI). Through close alignment of the CMI and our Flagship Institutes and other research centres, as well as the Turing University Network, the University strives to use AI to address research challenges with global significance.
This is a senior professorial position with responsibility for developing and delivering the University’s AI strategy. As Director you will have the opportunity to forge and lead a world-leading, multi-disciplinary research programme for AI, support research-led teaching and deliver responsible impact for this powerful and ground-breaking technology.
You will have the passion and proven leadership skills to shape the Centre and develop strategies to deliver excellence in AI research. You will accelerate research in the University through development and application of AI methods and tools, and raise our profile as a centre of excellence for AI-driven research through engagement with regional, national, and international partners and stakeholders, particularly the Alan Turing Institute and its Turing University Network. You will develop a strategy to deliver a coordinated response to large AI funding opportunities and recruit academic leads for the CMI’s key research themes. Furthermore, you will establish an AI talent pipeline by recruiting and managing a team of prestigious Vice Chancellor AI Fellows.
Your chair will be affiliated to the department that matches your area of research expertise. Full details of the opportunity are given in a brochure available from the CMI web site.
