University of Derby’s College of Science and Engineering in partnership with The QSS Group Limited (QSS) are offering an exciting career-development opportunity as a Software Development Engineer (Gamification Leader) to manage and deliver a challenging strategic Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project. Based at the QSS premises, you will be employed by the University as a KTP Associate but work under the terms and conditions of the company.

About the Role

QSS have a strategy to develop an immersive virtual platform based on innovative games-based learning techniques. This platform will support QSS to deliver its consultancy and training services focussing on Safety, Health and Environment and Risk Management. The Software Engineer (Gamification Leader) will have an influential role in this development supporting the ambitious growth plans of the company.

The role will involve the post holder developing and launching a games based online environment, in which QSS will deliver its consultancy services on the risk management maturity processes (RM3). The solution will enable the distributed management of this process in a secure manner across a range of platforms and will include the development of internal testing and validation of data and objects.

The project requires a broad base of skills including but not limited to:

  • Programming expertise (ideally in a game engine such as Unity (C#) or Unreal (C++));
  • Networked and distributed systems, and security architectures;
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence and/or machine learning may be beneficial;

You should be able to demonstrate capability in a range of these areas.

The KTP scheme is part-funded through UKRI Innovate UK, the scheme supports business organisations to partner with Universities to access cutting edge research and technology and support them to develop new products and services. You will play a crucial role in the transfer of knowledge from University of Derby into the company. You will have access to additional bespoke training from leading academics within the College of Science and Engineering as and when needed to support in the delivery of the project.

This full-time post is part-funded by the UK Government’s KTP programme. A KTP is a three-way project between a graduate, an organisation and a university. KTP is one of the UK’s largest graduate recruitment programmes and has been placing graduates on challenging, high profile projects for almost 45 years.  In addition to a competitive salary and core KTP development training, you will have a dedicated budget of £4,000 for further training and career development.
