The School
The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences (SRES) was created in August 2017 bringing together a diverse community of academics.
The University of Essex has significantly expanded its state-of-the-art facilities for research and education with the opening of a new facility in January 2018 with further renovation in Summer 2021.. As part of this development and fantastic REF results, SRES continues to invest significantly in new research and teaching provision.
To support this growth, SRES is currently recruiting a lecturer to join our diverse community of scholars and contribute to our very successful BSc Sports Therapy degree and newly validated pre-registration MSc Sports Therapy degree. We welcome applications from members of a relevant professional body (e.g. SST, BASRaT, HCPC) to deliver and support teaching across a range of clinical and placement modules. The appointees will demonstrate a commitment to providing an engaging, innovative curriculum that meets the modern needs of our diverse student body in a campus-based environment.
Duties of the Role
Duties will include contributing to the delivery of learning and teaching within the School, primarily supporting the sports therapy educational provision.
In addition, for Grade 9 ASER contracts, you will also have a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will hold a relevant doctoral level research degree or be close to completion and will have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate and be a member of The Society of Sports Therapists or equivalent professional body.
Experience of designing and planning learning activities, developing effective learning environments and proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in Higher Education in imaginative, engaging and innovative ways are essential for this post.
Please state within the application which level contract you are applying for. If you are applying ASE level, you will not need to submit a research statement or a three-year funding plan.
We particularly welcome applications from those who identify as female or non-binary and those from an ethnic minority as they are under-represented in the School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences.
As part of the process and to be successful you will be required to demonstrate how you your research has been impactful within and beyond the academic sphere, recognising the importance of this and the effect it will have on the University.
