Fixed term (maternity cover) for 12 months.
This is expected to be a full-time post but appointment on an 80% basis might be possible.
This exciting post combines engagement and outreach activities within mathematics with a social and civic mission. The Outreach and Widening Participation Manager will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of our outreach plans and activities, to communicate the wonder, beauty and applicability of Mathematics to the general public, and to widen awareness of the work of the School of Mathematics. A fundamental dimension of such plans will be aimed at unlocking the potential of people from under-represented groups/widening participation backgrounds, in particular school children, and prospective and current students from such groups.
The postholder will have a background in and enthusiasm for Mathematics and experience of planning and delivering events and activities, ideally gained in the areas of outreach and/or widening participation. The postholder will also have excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to convey mathematical topics to people from diverse backgrounds, and more generally the ability to communicate and form excellent relationships and make engaging and dynamic presentations to a wide variety of audiences.
The School is situated in the James Clerk Maxwell Building within the King’s Buildings campus. We have over 150 academic and related staff, and around 160 research students. We have approximately 1000 students on our undergraduate programmes spread across five year groups, and we welcome over 200 MSc students every year. More than 50% of our students are from outside the UK, and our international community represents over 50 nationalities.
